With the Central Government
The Government of India is currently in the process of putting together the 12th Five Year Plan and also looking at the role of NGO sector in the second innings of the National Rural Health Mission. The Central Government has shown a lot of interest in bringing along the Regional Resource Centres in this process and has been trying to assess the areas where efficient NGOs with an overarching presence can be included in the health and development programmes. Taking the issues forward RRC-VHAI organized Workshops in Delhi and Rajasthan focusing on “Strengthening the Role of MNGOs in the 12th Five Year Plan under NRHM”.

1) Brain-Storming Workshop focusing on “Strengthening the Role of MNGOs in the 12th Year Plan under NRHM” was organized on 9 December, 2011 at VHAI

VHAI-RRC organized Brain-Storming Workshop focusing on “Strengthening the Role of MNGOs in the 12th Five Year Plan under NRHM” on 9 December, 2011 at VHAI. Participants included the following

Government sector - Mission Director, Jammu & Kashmir; State NGO coordinator, J&K; Mission Director, Delhi; Joint Director (Family Welfare), Uttarakhand Government; Dr Sonali Rawal, Consultant, NRHM, MoH&FW, GoI.

NGO Sector – Representatives from all Delhi based RRCs; Selected Mother NGOs of all the four states with RRC-VHAI i.e., Uttarakhand, J&K, Rajasthan and Delhi. During the Workshop a lot of interest was shown by the Mission Directors from Delhi & J & K, of future collaboration with efficient and credible NGOs.

2) Regular advocacy efforts with the Central Government Health officials for their support and guidance.

3) In a special assignment from the MoH&FW, GoI, VHAI was assigned to conceptualise a Bulletin on ‘New Born Health.’ The Bulletin was put together in close discussion with several concerned departments in the Ministry under the guidance of Joint Secretary (P) and Director, NGO Division.
At State level
1. Delhi
• Meeting with the Mission Director, Delhi to take forward the concerns of Mother NGOs in the state and for a better involvement in the state PIP.

2. Rajasthan
• Meeting with the Mission Director, Rajasthan towards exploring the avenues of collaboration in the State Government health projects.

• A Brain-Storming Workshop focusing on “Strengthening the Role of MNGOs in the 12th Five Year Plan under NRHM and Hearing the voices of ASHAs” was organized on 20 December, 2011 at SIHFW, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

This Workshop was attended by 21 ASHAs from 4 districts of the state, Director (RCH), Rajasthan Govt.; State Minister, Rajasthan Govt.; District ASHA Coordinator, Rajasthan Govt.; and selected MNGOs of the state.

This workshop could capture the concerns of ASHAs and their need of regular capacity building and handholding by efficient organizations who can also take further their concerns.

3. Uttarakhand
• Meeting with the Principal Secretary and Mission Director, Uttarakhand to discuss the status of MNGO functioning in the state and possibility of NGOs’ involvement in State government health and development programmes. • Submission of Concept notes on a better involvement of NGOs in ‘Training and Capacity Building of VHSCs in Uttarakhand’ by RRC-VHAI, based on the real needs emerged from the findings of field visits of RRC team members to Tehri Garhwal, Almora and Dehradun districts.

4. Jammu & Kashmir
• VHAI-RRC is in continuous communication with MoHFW regarding inclusion of missing districts in the updated BLS Data Entry Package. Corrected CDs will be sent to MNGOs in J& K, which will be further followed by Training of MNGOs in Project Proposal Development.
